A Letter to all Disney Brides: Your Wedding is Not Childish

"Oh, you're getting married at Disney? Isn't that.... childish?"

Um. Excuse me?

Dear Disney Brides,

Your wedding is not childish.

Your love of Disney is not childish.

YOU, my friend, are awesome. And definitely not alone in this situation.

Unfortunately, you may hear criticisms from family members, friends, and even complete strangers regarding your Disney Wedding. (Side note: they are probably poor unfortunate souls who have never experienced the delight of a Dole Whip or Mickey bar).

What many people fail to realize is that Disney Weddings are beautiful because they are unique.

Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings recognizes that all brides/grooms have a specific vision, a special story, a one-of-a-kind fairytale.

When you pick Disney, your wedding will be in great hands. The planners are phenomenal, the venues are gorgeous, and the enhancements (confetti, fireworks, characters, Cinderella carriage, etc.) are out of this world spectacular.

I know some of you brides reading this are tired of trying to convince your family why you want/are having your wedding at Disney.  You are frustrated with everyone who judges, doesn't agree, or understand your decision. You're so over making up excuses and feeling misunderstood.

And I think some of these are common annoyances for all brides, but especially us Disney brides who encounter those nasty individuals who scrunch up their noses and ask, "Aren't you a little too old to like Disney?"

They just don't even know what they are saying.

**Luckily for us, being a Disney bride means being a part of Disbrides (Facebook group: Disbrides on Disney Brides Diary), a group of women who have been married at Disney before or are currently in the planning stages. It is an incredible resource for those planning a destination wedding at Walt Disney World or Disneyland.

The phenomenal women of Disbrides answered all my questions and helped me plan my dream wedding. A few of them even assisted on my wedding day by curling my bridesmaids' hair and taking pictures.

I can't imagine my wedding day without these extraordinary women.  Not only do they understand the stresses of planning a Disney Wedding, but they also know how to handle pettiness and mean comments about their wedding or Disney Weddings in general with class.

Ladies and gentlemen, you have every right to be excited about your Disney wedding. You should have it as over-the-top or low-key as you want because guess what - it's your big day. And at the end of it, what matters most is that you are happy and feel like royalty.

So whether your theme is, "Nightmare Before Christmas" or "Cinderella's Castle," your Disney wedding will be beautiful and magical. Don't feel ashamed. Don't be discouraged.

And most importantly -

Don't feel as though you have to explain your decision to anyone who may label your big day as "strange" or "childish."

You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I LOVE Mickey and Minnie. (Always will).  I love confetti cannons, fireworks, petal tosses, glass slippers, fairytales, pixie dust, and mermaids.

I wouldn't change my dream day.

Don't go changing yours <3

I am often accused of being childish.  I prefer to interpret that as child-like.  I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things.  I tend to exaggerate and fantasize and embellish.  I still listen to instinctual urges.  I play with leaves.  I skip down the street and run against the wind.  I never water my garden without soaking myself.  It has been after such times of joy that I have achieved my greatest creativity and produced my best work. ~Leo F.
